Varietal: Caturra
This lot is from a newer micro-mill in the Santa Maria de Dota area of Tarrazu; Beneficio Los Angeles. Situated at 1650 to 1780 meters, La Bisunga is planted in Caturra cultivar, and occupies about 1 hectare of land (2.5 acres). The mill is directly across from the home of the Calderon family. Ricardo Calderon was a member of Coopedota, the outsized regional coffee coop, but decided he could get better prices with more control over quality by building his own mill.
Syrupy with cherry and malted dark chocolate in the finish. There’s a juicy mouthfeel with strawberry and apricot while the maple from the dry fragrance and tea-like character from the aroma of the fresh brewed cup take on more of an almond quality that adds a pleasant dry accent to the acidity. This is a sweet and balanced cup, but with some piquant elements that underscore the fruit notes and add complexity
